Oh my God!

Oh, my God!

We hiked up Iron Mountain in them which was near our room.  Scenery is very different from anywhere else.  We did 1 and 3/4 hours of a very steep climb.  We felt very righteous.  We drove around Winaka down to the lake.  A very pretty little town. Sun is shining and it's about 18 degrees.  We took a secondary mountain road through a very steep pass (1000 meters - highest paved road in N.Z.) to get to Queenstown.   Here's ,the Oh, My God part!  oh, my God!  The scenery is spectacular along this route with switch back curves.  I have never seen anything like this.  And then we arrived at our lodge which is a ski lodge.  Holy Dinah !  We have a huge room with. Large bed and2 bunk beds.  We are on the main floor where this a porch to have our cocktails.  The car Is sparked right outside.  There is a gi-normous community kitchen with commercial equipment and a large fridge and freezer that you can put your groceries in. Not quite like the hotels at Tremblant. Tonite I will do pork tenderloin.  The lodge is full and only cost $120. We will stay here for 2 nights.

The lodge is 10 minutes away from Queenstown. We went in for lunch.  Wow!  The. Town looks like it could be the French Riviera .  Looks like the beautiful crowd is there having wine by the lake. The last towns have been in the mountains, it's absolutely gorgeous in this area.

Tomorrow we are going by an old 100 year old steamship to a sheep and cattle station.
Here a pic from the way over and from our room.  Last one is from our room
