Hot Springs
We did indeed have a drink with Kate and Bob last night and spent some time discussing travelling and the war years. We thought we did a bit of travelling. They put us to shame. He was a police detective in Toronto. Too bad they left today. We had a lot in common. They have travelled everywhere we have only more than once, plus other places we haven't. They said the only other place that compares to NZ is South Africa and the safaris. I was trying to work on Larry with their help to get him interested in going to Africa.
We did some shopping for a few little wee ones that we just happen to know, and out for a delicious cappacino. They do grow their own coffee beans. I must say it is wonderful coffee. Then Pinot Gris white wine is from here and is very nice too.
Kate told me last night that she had to go to the doctor for something minor and was able to get an app't the same day. It cost $75 and the doctor was from Red Deer, Canada. He works here only during the winters and Canada in the summers. What a life! She said he was very sweet, about our age and hated winter.
We went back to the tea house and thermal valley to take pictures because it was easy and close. Before we left the thermal field I said to the owner, the second time was even better than the first time. He was quick on the uptake and said, "My girlfriends tell me that all the time".
In town we went to a Hot spring within a nature park. This was a natural one. We liked the price better (0) and it was natural. The river drains Lake Taupo. Down further are the falls. The river itself is cold, but a natural hot stream feeds into the river above the falls. I prefer the natural any day to the expensive run springs. A young mother was there with her little 7 month old son and she had him in the spring. I thought it was too hot for him. His colour was beet-red and he didn't look too happy. It's hard not to say anything. I thought it was too hot for him. Anyways, mom finally took him out and he was more animated. Larry said to them, "isn't it a little hot for him". She said, "oh, he's okay."
We didn't bungee jump today, we'll wait for the South Island. Dinner tonight, fish on the Barbie. Off to Wellington in the am, ferry the next morning to the South Island.
