Coastal Treasure Hunt

Coastal treasure hunt

Another beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky.  We left for the Catlins which is the coastal road at the southern tip of  South Island.  Well, I thought we had seen all there was to see, but this day takes the cake.  We had a lot of fun hopping in and out of the car.  We had been given a map with the attractions to see along the coast.  There were 27 attractions.  We could not do all of them as we were also on our way to Dunedin where we had a room booked.  We did 8 or 9 of them.  We did 3 waterfalls -pictures coming.  Several small hikes.  We went to Nugget Point hoping to see yellow-eyed penguins and did  not see them.  We have seem some sea lions previously, but we could not see them from where we were.  I think it's important to know the sea animals' habits.  Apparently, some are not there all the time.  So we have learned to ask the locals when to see certain ones.  At any rate, the scenery made up for it and was well worth it.  Also we had a lot of exercise today and felt righteous that we could have a beer at the end of the day. We had a rare dinner out at a pub around the corner from our hotel.  We've been very fortunate with generous sized rooms and small apartments, but we're in the city now in a city room, apart from a fridge there is nothing else as far as house keeping.  At least the refreshments are cold.
