Dolphin Whisperer
I swim with fishes.
As it turned out, we went for a walk and. Happened upon Dolphin Encounters. They had decided to do a tour after the storm, so I was first on the list to go. Larry oped out, so I went by myself. A wonderful experience. Seas had calmed by then. We swam with the dolphins 3 times. You cannot swim more than a half an hour at a time. They are very protected. The boat finds out where there are, drives not too close and then we go in the water in wet suits as the water is very cold. We are not allowed to touch them or extend our hand. Everyone was supposed to make verbal noises to at track them, preferably high pitched. I had a high singing sound, soprano don't you know and they came around every time. You just float there and watch. They swim over, under and beside you. Fabulous. There were 2 different schools of them near us. When the boats's horn blasted you were supposed to come in. After the third encounter, where we had a school of six playing with us, we were called in. Because there were so many around, the tours let us have extra time to take pictures when the boat was mooring. The dolphins like to play in the waves as you go along. I got super pictures. One dolphin just floated and then turned up his nose at me, which the guide had not seen too many times. We also saw an albatross who was eating a huge squid. Which I didn't get a picture of. It took long to get my camera out.
Our guide was loaded with knowledge about the dolphins..she said it was mating season, so sometimes they didn't want to play. They had other things on their minds. If they are not interested in the human element, they will just swim away. I am so glad i had the opportunity to see them in the wild. Our guide said the storm we had was extremely unusual as it came from the Northeast with winds up to 100 km/hour and then left leaving moderate winds and seas. They have never done a tour at this time before. She said earlier today another tour saw several schools of dolphin emigrating up the coast, probably to mate or have their young.
I think this is a very special place. We also saw a colony of seals nearby that we're sunbathing. I have a picture of that.
Larry here, I'm just editing Beth's entry, we always edit each other's for spelling etc. , and the full moon is rising out of the ocean.
